Support Diversity, Inclusion, and Equity
The Student-Faculty Programs office works to support a variety of recruitment efforts aimed toward diversifying our graduate student community.
The WAVE Fellows program provides research opportunities for visiting undergraduates from historically marginalized and racially minoritized communities. The goal is to help diversity students in science and engineering Ph.D. programs and make Caltech's programs more visible and accessible to students not traditionally exposed to Caltech.
FUTURE Ignited is an annual, virtual event that provides insight into the life of a graduate student, graduate school application guidance, and an introduction to Caltech's graduate programs.
CALTECH SHINES is a day-long, virtual program designed to introduce recently admitted graduate students to the larger Caltech community. The day features presentations and Q&A sessions with representatives from an array of campus resources; an opportunity to meet with student members of campus affinity groups; a session with academic divisions and options aimed at answering any lingering questions; and a virtual networking session.
The Graduate Summer Research Institute (GSRI) program provides a comprehensive program of orientation, academic support, and professional development designed to ease the transition into Caltech's graduate programs. GSRI is designed to introduce incoming graduate students from historically marginalized and/or underserved groups to the value of graduate education; to improve the research enterprise through increased diversity; and to ensure these students thrive at Caltech.
