Rising Tide
Rising Tide is a research techniques training program. PCC undergraduate participants will receive training from Caltech graduate students or postdoctoral scholars. The training will focus on a few primary research areas, including synthetic and analytical chemistry, computational or theoretical chemistry, and biochemistry. Additionally, the program will emphasize science communication, professional development, and team-building as core parts of its curriculum. Participants will receive a research techniques training certificate at the conclusion of the program.
The program encourages applications from first generation college students, educationally or financially disadvantaged students, and geographically underrepresented students. This program accepts applications from everyone. This program is open only to students with little to no prior research experience and with a strong interest in Chemistry & Biology.
The 2025 Rising Tide program dates are July 11-August 22, 2025
Rising Tide Scholars will be given an award for their participation in the program. The 2025 Rising Tide program award is $4,770 for the six-week period.
Rising Tide Scholars will:
- Carry out their work full-time throughout the program
- Keep a detailed laboratory notebook during the program
- Write a summary report of the techniques learned in the program
- Attend academic and professional development workshops focused on developing a research career, effective writing and oral communications, and other topics of interest to future researchers
Applications for the 2025 program will open in March.
