12:00pm to 1:00pm
Add to Cal

Come hear from Caltech faculty and JPL scientists about their exciting research! Lunch will be served to the first 100 guests.

This week features Kenneth Williford, Deputy Project Scientist NASA Mars 2020.

Looking for Life on Mars (on Earth)

NASA's next Mars rover will launch in 2020 with a mission to explore ancient martian habitats, seek signs of ancient life and prepare a collection of rock and soil samples for possible future return to Earth. Mars 2020 will investigate rocks deposited between 3 and 4 billion years ago, during a time when Mars and Earth were both broadly habitable. Williford will provide an overview of the Mars 2020 mission and of his work in the JPL Astrobiogeochemistry Laboratory evaluating some of the most ancient signs of life on Earth in part to inform the eventual search for biosignatures in samples returned from Mars.
