Originally from the UK, Jean-Sebastien (JS) is now a junior at Caltech, dual-majoring in Computer Science and Biology. He is actively involved in the various Caltech clubs, serving as Vice President of the Student Committee for Biological Advancement and Treasurer of the Undergraduate Computer Science Club. His hobbies include reading, Lego-building, concert-going, drone flying, and drawing. He also likes driving up to Vandenberg to see Falcon 9 launches and he's trying to get a pilot's license. JS has so far SURFed under Professor Erik Winfree and under Professor Niles Pierce. His advice to prospective applicants: "Try not to send lots of impersonal cold emails to lots of professors. In my experience, fewer but considered emails asking questions about papers and showing knowledge of a professor's research is your best bet at getting a SURF."
