This lunch-time program is designed to help undergrads learn more about the research happening at the Jet Propulsion Lab and connect them with possible SURF mentors for next summer.
Focus: Robotics modeling and simulation, software and information systems, science system engineering, planetary geology, thermal and material engineering

Speakers:
Sarah Milkovich: Dr. Sarah Milkovich is a planetary geologist and a systems engineer at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory working on the Mars 2020 rover. She has previously worked on the Mars Curiosity, Mars Phoenix, Cassini-Huygens, and Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter science operations teams. Sarah received a B.S. in planetary science from Caltech, and a M.S. and Ph.D. in planetary geology from Brown University.
Rudra Mukherjee: Dr. Rudra Mukherjee is a technologist in the Mobility and Robotic Systems section at JPL. While his first (technical) love is computational multibody dynamics and parallel computing, he has led a diverse portfolio of big and small tasks related to robotics, engineering design and computational simulations for different sponsors such as JPL, DARPA and US Army. Currently he manages a strategic research and technology effort in support of Mars Sample Return and leads a DARPA task on in-space robotic assembly of large apertures. Rudra holds a Ph.D. in mechanical engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.
Tatiana Roy: Tatiana Roy is a senior undergraduate student in applied physics. She is also pursuing a minor in aerospace engineering, and is interested in space technology and propulsion research. The topic of her JPL SURF this past summer was optical thermometer calibration for Hall thruster cathode temperature measurement. Her other interests include general metal work and papercrafts.
Oleg Sindiy: Dr. Oleg Sindiy is a Systems Architect at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory in the Information Systems Engineering Group. He received his BS in Aerospace Engineering from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, and his MS and PhD is Aeronautical and Astronautical Engineering from Purdue University. He started his career at JPL as a SURF intern, co-op'ed at JPL after his Masters, and was a visiting JPL researcher during his PhD. He has mentored over a dozen interns at JPL. At present, he's working on the flight system development team for the Europa Clipper project, and the project systems engineering team on the Asteroid Redirect Robotic Mission (ARRM).
