Tommy hails from Hinsdale, Illinois where he grew up with three siblings and his dog. He enjoys playing golf, flying planes, and watching football. At Caltech, he majors in physics with a minor in aerospace. He is part of the Caltech Flying Club and the Caltech Golf Club. In his freshman year, he did a SURF in Copenhagen with Dr. Charles Steinhardt on galaxy evolution. His second SURF was in the Rosenbaum Lab on quantum spin glasses. "SURFs are a completely different way to learn compared to coursework. You are given problems which nobody has ever solved in possibly an unfamiliar field. Yet, by the end of the summer you'll make steps toward figuring them out."
