Jessie is a San Diego native who likes swimming, hiking, and bouldering. Outside of research, she is passionate about scientific outreach in local communities as president of the Chemistry Club. She has done three SURFs in the past: two at Caltech with Professors Andre Hoelz and Steve Mayo, and one at MIT with Professor Amy Keating. She is currently interested in working on protein design problems at the intersection of computer science and biochemistry. Jessie would highly recommend doing an off-campus SURF or a SURF in a new field: "Doing research at MIT this summer broadened my horizons, helped me get perspective on where I want to be for graduate school, and gave me fresh ideas for my research at Caltech."
